Throwaway Teens

Excerpt from The Observer, June 17, 2009:

“My story is not just a cautionary tale. By telling it, I hope I can raise awareness and maybe light a fire in the community to do something,” Schiller said.

For Schiller, a throwaway teen is one who is not getting adequate care in the home.

The situations may vary. Some throwaway teens may be runaways; others may be living at home in an abusive situation, and still others may be spending nights in friends’ homes, sleeping from couch to couch—but they all have one thing in common. . . .
